Description:

Rakau is a dual purpose hop varietal from New Zealand. Released by HortResearch, this hop is quickly becoming a favorite among professional brewers. It has relatively high oil content, especially myrcene, with low cohumulone levels which make it a great hop for beers where hoppiness is desired but bitterness is not necessarily wanted, such as New World IPAs. This hop is often called "the whole orchard" because of its stone fruit, fig, peach, apricot and other orchard fruit flavor and aroma characteristics. While it has application in hoppy beers such as pales and IPAs, some people have found it is a great hop to use in lager beers as well. While not yet widely used by home brewers here in the United States, it has found favor with professional brewers and could be one of the next hot hops out there. Try some and see what you think!
